Strength & Conditioning For Runners
Why come to a runners workshop?? Well why not??? Running is a very basic skill that we use as children but very often as we develop, running becomes less of a part of our lives until many people give it up completely. Those who pick it up again in later life are often dogged with injury and niggles. Why is that?? Well, as I mentioned, running is a skill. You wouldn’t jump on a pair of skis and point yourself down a slope straight away. You would no doubt want to know the basics of the sport. That is how I see running. The couch to 5k is a great way to ease into the sport but it doesn’t really teach you how to run. Running requires elasticity, strength, balance and coordination and uses muscles very differently to walking. The main muscles of running are the gluteal muscles which drive us forward and stabilise our pelvis. Modern lifestyle has adapted us to spend a great deal of our time sat on our glute muscles making them soft and flabby!! This doesnt make for a good engine to power us for running. In turn, this then puts extra load on different muscles leading to injuries such as shin splints and knee pain. Being stronger in general can improve our running efficiency and reduce our risk of injuries but many runners neglect this important element to training.
This informative, practical workshop will help you understand why we should be doing S&C, how to incorporate it into your training plan and how to do it safely using minimal kit. You’ll be shown correct movement patterns and learn which muscles we are using and why. If you use the code RUNNER you will receive £5 off standard entry price
